Mia Kerner
Newsroom InternMia Kerner is a WCMU newsroom intern based at the Traverse City Record-Eagle, where she files both broadcast and print stories about northwest lower Michigan.
Kerner is a Grand Rapids native completing the final year of her journalism degree at Central Michigan University. She loves storytelling and meeting the interesting and important people that contribute to a narrative. Kerner's journalism experience includes three semesters reporting for Grand Rapids Community College’s Collegiate Live newspaper and as a reporter for Central Michigan Life.
Her favorite Michigan destination is Mackinac Island. Kerner has endless memories of visiting the island in her childhood, which was heaven on Earth for the “horse girl” that she was. She still has friends that work on the island and have always loved the nostalgia that accompanies every visit.
After graduation, her goal is to explore as many avenues of journalism as possible. Whether by pursuing additional internships or jobs, Kerner wants to gain experience in reporting on every topic she's able to. She believes that career satisfaction and success is greatly dependent on one being educated, well-rounded and adaptable, which she hopes to be.
