Law enforcement officials in Emmet County say they were searching for the man accused of stabbing 11 people in a Traverse City Walmart in the days prior to the attack.
In a statement, the Petoskey Department of Public Safety said made contact with Bradford James Gille on Thursday related to a loitering complaint.
The department said he "made no threatening comments and appeared calm," and officers did not detain him.
On Friday, police requested a court order to take Gille into protective custody citing "concerns about his welfare." The request was granted by the 7th Probate Court of Emmet County.
Officers from the Petoskey Department of Public Safety, and Emmett County Sherrif's Department spent Friday evening and Saturday searching for Gille, but they were unable to locate him.
The Petoskey statement says he left the County before the court order was issued.
The mass stabbing incident occurred around 4:45 Saturday afternoon, over 60 miles away in Traverse City.
