In the heart of Michigan winter, the National Weather Service is predicting a snowstorm to hit most of Lower Michigan on Wednesday and Thursday.
They say the storm will begin in Southwest Michigan with freezing rain beginning Wednesday. They say this will continue into Southeast Michigan. However, the National Weather Service is still unsure where the melting line will fall.
They are predicting Mt. Pleasant should expect six to ten inches of snow. They also say areas north of that won't see as much snow.
Cort Scholten is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids. He said he is confident this storm will hit as they are predicting.
He said, "This weather system has been remarkably high confidence. The period we’re most concerned about is Wednesday afternoon to Wednesday night. It’s almost a guarantee that there’s going to be some snow then."
As for the rest of winter, Scholten said that we should expect typical temperature swings.
"We're looking at that pretty typical springtime roller coaster of temperatures...we get big time temperature swings, and we'll see a variety of precipitation from from future storms these next couple of weeks, I would imagine," he said.
As for this week's storm, travelers should be careful and make sure to take all winter traveling precautions.
