Sue Gamble

Host, Central Stage

Sue Gamble, Professor Emerita of music education, taught at Central Michigan University from 1978 to 2016. She also served as chair of the department of music, 1983-1990. She previously taught general music and choral music in grades 7-12 in central Pennsylvania.

She received her bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and has published articles in the Music Educator's Journal, the Midwest Kodály Music Education Association Bulletin and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Bulletin of Research.

She specialized in elementary and middle school music methods as well as in music of world cultures. Dr. Gamble also serves as the on-air host of the WCMU program “Central Stage.”

The 2018 season of Central Stage continues Thursday on WCMU.  It’s our series of performances by faculty artists and student ensembles from Central Michigan University’s SCHOOL of MUSIC.  Dr. Sue Gamble, professor emerita of Music Education is host.  

This week, the final program in the 2018 season features a performance by Jazz Lab I, led by
 Rob Smith.  Jazz classics from standards to beautiful ballads are on the program, with selections
by Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny and Sammy Nestico, among others.

This week, Tchaikovsky’s Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello in A minor, his only piano trio and a moving tribute to the composer’s friend Nicolai Rubinstein.  The performance features violinist, Fangye Sun, pianist, Casey Robards and cellist, Daniel Tressel.

This week, the spotlight is on the cello with performer, Jamie Fiste, professor of cello.  His program features the Piano Trio #2 in D minor by Dmitri Shostakovich and the preludes from J. S. Bach’s Cello Suites numbers 3 & 4.

This week, a program of music from the Baroque era featuring selections for voice and instrument, including Giovanni Bertoli’s Sonata No. 1 for Bassoon and continuo and Handel’s aria “Quel fior che all’alba ride”.
