The North-South Rail Project that would connect the south and the north of Michigan's Lower Peninsula was first expected to start offering limited services in 2020. Now developers are saying the next steps of the projects might take about 10 more years.

Transportation officials say they are currently in a "funding crisis." One transportation non-profit says the 2026 fiscal budget proposal would give Michigan's local bus systems their lowest direct funding allocation in 70 years.
