Sugar maples recover better than most species, according to a researcher at the University of Vermont.

Harwood Gold Store in Charlevoix and Cafe and Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery of Petoskey both experienced significant damage to their properties after ice toppled trees last week.

Maple trees started bleeding sap early this season, due to fluctuating weather patterns this winter. Some Michigan tribes are letting them rest this year.
