98.3FM Sault Ste. Marie returns to full power

Updated 1/25/18: 98.3FM Sault Ste. Marie returned to full power this afternoon, after WCMU engineers installed a new transmitter at our broadcast site on Sugar Island. Our previous transmitter suffered a catostrophic failure on January 2nd.

WCMU would like to thank all our listeners in the eastern Upper Peninsula and Ontario for your patience during this process. We are proud to serve the region as your source for NPR News, and classical, jazz, and blues, and the purchase of this transmitter will allow us to stay on the air well into the future. Thank you for your support!

Previous post:

Our transmitter in Sault Ste. Marie, 98.3FM, will be operating at reduced power for several weeks following a major equipment failure on Tuesday, January 2. This means listeners outside of the immediate Sault area may have trouble listening to WCMU over the air.

WCMU Public Media engineers have installed a backup transmitter to provide partial service to the Sault area. However, if you are still unable to pick up 98.3FM on your radio, there are several other options available to keep listening to WCMU. We outline them below.

We appreciate your patience as we work to restore full service in the eastern Upper Peninsula and Ontario, and we apologize for any inconvenience this outage may cause. While the required repairs are extensive, we hope to complete them as soon as possible.

HOW TO CONTINUE LISTENING IN THE UPPER PENINSULA AND ONTARIO

On-Air: 98.3FM is on the air, but at greatly reduced power. If you live in the immediate vicinity of Sault Ste. Marie, you may be able to continue listening as you normally would. If you are unable to hear us on 98.3, you may be able to pick up 91.7FM from Alpena, or 103.9FM from Harbor Springs.
