“Aspects of America,” opens a new season of concerts by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, with music director Libor Ondras, at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 1 at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. The program includes selections by composers who have been influenced by American music, and how that music developed characteristics that set it apart from its European ancestors. The GLCO strings are featured in music by William Grant Still, Morton Gould, Astor Piazzolla and others. The concert also showcases the winner of the Charles F. Davis Young Artist Competition winner, 15-year-old Karlie Thomas of Charlevoix. Karlie will play Scaramouche for saxophone and orchestra, by Darius Milhaud.
