Officials estimate that somewhere between 2,000-3,000 people came to Whitefish Point to remember the 29 men who lost their lives 50 years ago.

Around 3,000 people gathered at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point to remember the 29 men who lost their lives 50 years ago on Monday.

The 29 men who died in 1975 on the Edmund Fitzgerald were honored Monday at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in the Upper Peninsula.

Two events, a memorial service for the public, and a separate private ceremony for the families of the crew, were held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.
