School districts in northern Michigan will be adding days on to the end of the school year after record snowfall this winter.

Now, Republican State Representative Cam Cavitt has introduced a bill that would forgive additional days lost during the ice storm last month.

Schools in Otsego and Montmorency counties could be forced to have classes until June 23.

Katy Xenakis-Makowski is superintendent for the Johannesburg-Lewiston school district and the president of the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators.

She supports the snow day forgiveness bill, but she is also asking the State Board of Education to apply for a federal waiver regarding state assessment requirements.

Xenakis-Makowski spoke with WCMU's David Nicholas.
