Planets align in rare occurrence

The universe will present us earthlings with a beautiful nighttime show through this weekend. Venus and Mars will be visible just beneath a thin crescent moon. And beyond them, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Mercury are aligned as well.

Professor Jim McDonald who is from the Science Education Department at Central Michigan University said this planetary alignment is rare.

“To get all of those planets to line up so that we can see them all at the same time is, because each planet has an independent amount of years that it takes to go around the sun, it's extremely rare to be able to do three or five planets at the same time,” he explained.

McDonald said you can see some planets with the naked eye, but will need binoculars or a telescope to see them all or see them with any detail.
