First mosquito-borne illness detected in Saginaw County

Experts say mosquito populations are down this year, that’s after a dry start to summer. However, that doesn’t mean the ones that are around... aren’t carrying disease.

Routine mosquito-borne disease surveillance has detected the first case this year of the mosquito-borne Jamestown Canyon Virus in Saginaw County.

Tina Sawyer spoke with Bill Stanuszek, the director at Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission. His organization found recent evidence of the virus and says mosquito season is not over.
