A young author is celebrating his debut novel Feb. 25 with a book signing at the Oscoda library. The seven-year-old's book “The Tale of Talking Trees” tells the story of a boy and his tree friends.
The saying “write what you know” rings true for Hudson Bergeron. Hudson knows trees, and they’re what inspired him to write his first book.
“I was outside my house one summer morning, and I thought the trees were like talking to me, but like, in sign language,” Hudson said.
Hudson said he likes trees because they make oxygen and help us breathe. His love of trees comes from climbing the ones in his backyard and traveling to different parks across the country. His favorite tree, he said, is a Joshua tree, which he saw on his family's travels.
Hudson said “The Tale of Talking Trees” took him over a year to write.
His mom, Amanda, said the family self-published through Amazon and found a freelance illustrator online through Fiverr.
“To any kid or parent out there, who wants to try out the same thing, I would encourage the kiddos to follow their interests and let their imagination go," Amanda said, "and then utilize the cool services that are out there.”
Hudson said he plans to write a sequel to “The Tale of Talking Trees,” featuring an adventure with his family and a battle with a wicked witch.
The book signing will be from 12-1 p.m. on March 25 the Robert J Parks Library in Oscoda Township. "The Tale of Talking Trees" is available online.
In the original version of this story, it said the book signing was on March 25. It has been corrected to Feb. 25.
