Some top Michigan law enforcement officials see a financial crisis approaching.

A group of law enforcement leaders says Michigan needs to be doing more to support police officers.

Representatives from local and county law enforcement met in Waterford on Monday.

They spoke about the rise in crime in the state and the difficulty of attracting young people to the profession.

They agreed that money is a major issue departments face.

But Republican State Senator Jim Runestad says Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s budget plan focuses too much on “feel good” proposals.

“People are not concerned about the ‘feel good’ if they feel like their lives are endangered.”

Runestad says lawmakers are still formulating a plan for the problems the law enforcement leaders outlined.
