Whitmer pushes for bi-partisan mask mandate

The number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise in Michigan, and now Governor Gretchen Whitmer is asking for bi-partisan support. Right now state health department guidelines mandate masks indoors.

Speaking at a news conference this afternoon (THU), Whitmer says she wants the Republican-led legislature to make that state law.

“This week I sent a letter to the Republican leaders in the legislature urging them to pass legislation that requires Michiganders to wear masks in indoor places and crowded outdoor areas," Whitmer said. "But we do think that it would be helpful to our health, our safety and our economy, if it was codified in a bipartisan way with the legislature and that's what we've asked for.”

Whitmer congratulated former Vice President Joe Biden and a bi-partisan group of legislators who won federal races in Michigan. She urged Michiganders to unify against the Coronavirus pandemic – what she called a -quote- “common enemy.”
