Sault Ste. Marie Michigan may start the new year with a world record.

The city is looking to claim the record for the most snowmobiles in a parade.

The current record holder is Alberta, Canada, with 1,047.

Sault Ste. Marie is setting their goal at 1,250.

Linda Hoath is the Executive Director of the Sault Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“The I-500 is 50 years old on February 2nd, so we’re kind of doing that in conjunction of that, and Sault Ste. Marie being 350, it’s an added event but it’s a fun thing, it’s something different.”

Hoath the attempt will be a good way to celebrate the city’s 350 year anniversary.

“It’s not your normal party or whatever, so it’s going to be a real fun time, and like I said snowmobiling is big up here,” said Hoath.

Riders from all over the state have already registered.
