The recent anti-lockdown protests in Lansing are causing additional stress for Michigan nurses.
Assistant Director of Nursing at Central Michigan University, Bethany Brown said the protests have frustrated nurses, whose goal is to protect the public.
"When we see these kinds of activities, it kind of tugs at our heartstrings a little bit," Brown said. "We want to understand where the people are coming from and their concerns as well but knowing what it’s like inside the battlefield of the hospital, makes that sometimes super frustrating for healthcare providers."
Brown also said hospital policy changes can add to health professional’s stress levels.
"We are getting new evidence everyday so our policies and procedures change almost on a daily basis, which can be super frustrating," Brown said. "Change is hard for anybody but when it’s changing constantly that can create a lot of unwell feelings."
She said some nurses are living away from families, because they’re worried about spreading the virus.
Brown said social distancing has been hard for some people, but she said it’s necessary to stay home so health care providers can do their jobs.
