Northern Michigan manufacturing company, Petoskey Plastics, is making isolation gowns for McLaren Health Care hospitals across the state.
According to McLaren Northern Michigan, the gowns are used to protect health care workers from contamination of blood and body fluids, something is critical to mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
“Like hospitals across the country, McLaren Northern Michigan anticipates a significant disruption in supply chain and a shortage of supplies including isolation gowns in the coming weeks,” McLaren Northern Michigan said in a press release.
The gown prototype was approved last week. Now, Petoskey Plastics has started the production of 10,000 gowns per day at their Petoskey plant.
“We anticipate that this production of isolation gowns will meet our future needs before our supply is depleted,” Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Northern Michigan Todd Burch said.
In a statement, the company said equipment that is used for protective automotive seat covers is being modified to create the isolation gowns.
McLaren Northern Michigan serves 22 counties in northern lower Michigan and the eastern part of the Upper Peninsula.
