Flood cleanup is underway in Isabella and Midland counties

Last weeks flood is taking its toll on a number of properties in Isabella and Midland Counties. Restoration efforts are underway, and damage estimates are mounting.

The flood damaged a number of roads, homes and businesses, as well as parts of CMU’s campus.

Local restoration businesses say crews have been working non-stop since early Friday morning.

One Mt Pleasant apartment complex owner speculates it could cost upwards of half a million dollars to fix the damage to his units alone.

Roger Thornton is the Marketing Manager for Hammer Restoration in Mount Pleasant.

“Friday morning, about one in the morning the phone started ringing and it really never quit all day Friday. We had well over between the two offices 300 calls, in that first 12, 14 hours.”

Thornton said to avoid being scammed, be sure a restoration crew is properly licensed before letting them in your home.

“We really did commercial and businesses first, because we needed to get them up and open so they could keep the economy going so they really fell on our priority list first, and then to residential stuff.”

A number of homes, businesses, and roads took a hit from the flooding.

Isabella and Midland counties are currently in a state of disaster, and seeking federal assistance.
