More than $1.9 billion in state income tax refunds have been returned to taxpayers in Michigan so far.

According to the Michigan Department of Treasury has processed 3.3 million income tax returns as of June 17, 2019. The average refund was $571 for the 2018 tax year, $19 higher than the previous tax year.

The department estimates ten percent of residents have not yet filed state income tax returns.

Taxpayers have four years to file a return and claim a refund.
