This is a recurring 4-week class for students who wish to hone their colored pencil skills further with artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. Class is dedicated to advanced ideas and rotating projects, as well as critique for serious students building a portfolio and looking to exhibit their work. Students MUST have completed Intro to Colored Pencils with Julie Tyslicky to enroll in this class.
This 4-week course will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, September 15-October 6, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

This is the final course of the four-part Fundamentals of Drawing series with acclaimed artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. Throughout this course, students will focus on the importance of developing a series of work. We will be discussing why this is important in your development as an artist. You’ll discover how working in a series can broaden and hone your skills. We will touch on Artists’ Biographies, Artists’ Statements, and the difference between the two. You will be guided on how to enter a juried show. Please note- completion of Drawing 1-3 is required to participate in this course.
This 12-week course will be held from 6-8:30 pm on Wednesdays, September 17-December 3, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

The Friends of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Fall book sale is approaching fast!
Friends of the Library members can shop early from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, October 10. (Memberships and renewals can be done at the Checkout Desk at City Hall prior to the sale or at the doors of the Library Auditorium on October 10. For membership information visit www.gadml.org/friends)
The sale will be open to the public from 10am-4pm on Saturday, October 11, and be sure to stop by on Sunday, October 12, from 1pm-4pm and fill a bag for only $5! (Bags will be provided.) Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.
*The sale will still be held in the Library Auditorium & Mezzanine despite construction. All other areas of the Library will remain closed.*

This is the second course of four in the Fundamentals of Drawing series with acclaimed artist and instructor Julie Tyslicky. This course will build upon the skills learned in course 1 to further advance your technical art skills. Participants will learn how to utilize tools to sharpen their skills in drawing. You will learn more about observation with site measuring. Students will also learn technical skills in using grids, their many uses as a tool, and how it assists in portrait drawing, as well as one & two-point perspective drawing.
Fundamentals of Drawing 1 is required before taking Fundamentals of Drawing 2.
This 12-week course will be held weekly from 3-5:30 pm, on Monday, September 15-December 1, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

A public forum to provide information on the issue of Hospice and Palliative care will be held Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Northern Lower Michigan (LWVNLM). The forum will be held at the Petoskey District Library’s downstairs conference room. Participants can attend either in person at the library or by Zoom. Program overview:Paul Blanchard, MD will provide a brief overview of issues and decisions to be considered as end of life approaches. A graduate of Wayne State University Medical School, Dr. Blanchard has practiced internal medicine in Petoskey since 1987. He is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. He has been medical director of Hospice of Little Traverse Bay and Northwest Michigan Hospice during his career. He has extensive experience managing chronic disease and in advanced care planning discussions.Courtney Brinkman, MSN, FNP-C, NorthStar Palliative Care. Ms. Brinkman will explain what Palliative Care is, when it is appropriate, who provides it, and what insurance coverage might be available. Courtney Brinkman is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, in practice since 2014. She obtained her BSN from Lake Superior State University, and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University. Her career experiences include primary care, adolescent health, geriatric medicine and home based palliative care and hospice for the past three years. It is here that she is able to share her skills and knowledge base with medically complex and chronically ill patients, helping them to improve their quality of life, feel supported, educated, and empowered to be active participants in their healthcare journey.Chris Hurley, LPN, Business Development and Sales Supervisor for McLaren Health Management Group, will discuss Hospice Services in our community. Chris has been in her current role for over 18 years, promoting McLaren Health Management Group’s community-based health care continuum of home care, hospice, and palliative care. Chris will focus on eligibility, scope of services, where they are provided, what hospice providers are available locally, what is the cost and what insurance coverage might be available.A question and answer period will follow.
