Soft Pastel Still Life

Soft Pastel Still Life
Join instructor Matthew Grimmer for an introduction to soft pastels. This course is designed to teach students how to draw from life while giving them an understanding of how to utilize color theory and the medium itself. You'll learn to use color to portray lights and shadows and how to pair colors to achieve harmony within a composition. You’ll also cover draftsmanship and drawing from sight so students can hone their realistic drawing techniques.
Over the course, students will build a drawing in successive layers, learning how to apply the appropriate layer each week; beginning with a focus on drawing techniques and ending with a heavier focus on color and blending. Students will work from the same still life over the course so you have plenty of time to work on a single subject. This course is perfect for pastel beginners or intermediate level.
This three-week course will be held from noon to 3 pm, on Wednesdays, April 2-16, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.
