Straits of Mackinac cables capped

The electric cables which leaked hundreds of gallons of dielectric fluid in the Straits of Mackinac have been capped.

Coast guard officials said on Sunday, under oversight from unified command, the severed cable was soldered, capped, sealed, and laid back to its original position.

Authorities said there is no free flowing fluid left in the retired cables, and American Transmission Company is preparing a long-term plan to remove the damaged cables from the straits.

They said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
