Harrison mourns former residents killed in Texas shooting

The community of Harrison, Michigan held a candlelight vigil Monday night to honor victims of the church shooting in Texas.

Two of 26 people who died in the attack grew up in the small Clare County community. Many of their family members still live there.

Roughly 60 people were in attendance to honor the lives of Robert and Shani Corrigan. The two were high school sweethearts. Robert served 30-years in the Air Force. The couple’s two sons are also active duty military.

Bob Summers is Robert Corrigan’s uncle.

“This is something that you don’t expect and you don’t believe is going to happen but it did and it does and we are trying to deal with it, trying to get through it.”

Jean Anne Corrigan is Robert’s mother and still lives in the town.

“They were very good people and they loved the lord and I know they are with him. They will greatly be missed by not only me but by their siblings. I know they are okay where they are at now but we will greatly miss them.”

Renee Haley is the Director of Clare County Veterans Services and helped organize the event.

“It just goes to show that even small-town America isn’t immune to the tragedies that happen in America. He and his whole family are deeply rooted in Clare County. They went to high school here, he and his wife graduated together, high school sweethearts, which only adds to the tragedy of the situation.”

Haley said it was important for the community to come out and support the Corrigan family.

Funeral services for the couple have not yet been set.
