A non-profit group of people, who love to fish, is hosting an event next month to make it easier for people with disabilities to hit the lake.

The group is called “Fishing Has No Boundaries”. It’s purpose is to  bring the simple joy of fishing to people with disabilities.

Ben Kissee is with “Fishing Has No Boundaries”, which is organizing the event. He said it doesn't matter what your disability is or how old you are,  volunteers will make sure they have amenities for you.

“We have adaptive fishing equipment. If somebody has the inability to use their hands or their arms we have automatic fishing reels that will reel in the fish and they just have to push a button. So it's pretty impressive stuff and no matter what your disability is we’ll make sure we have amenities for you”.

Kissee said this year, they have enough boats lined up to take 20 participants out on Sanford Lake in Midland county. He said without people volunteering their boats, the event would not be possible.

“ I'm really excited about one man who needs an adaptive fishing reel. He hasn't been fishing in eight years. He’s 62 years old but he hasn't been fishing in eight years due to a stroke he had. So, he's going to come out and fish for the first time and he loves to fish. He hasn't had the ability to fish because he needs certain things. So we’ve got that for him and I'm excited to have him”.

Kissee said for information on how to participate or for how to volunteer your boat on August 19, feel free to contact him.
