  • This week on Destination Out, host Mike Johnston features the work of Norwegian alto saxophonist Frode Gjerstad, highlighting collaborations with Bobby Bradford, Johnny Dyani, and John Stevens.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast, Robert Barclay features a third helping of blues artists with connections to Arkansas. He includes Big Bill Broonzy, Dale Hawkins, Roy Buchanon, Sonny Burgess, Michael Burks, BB King, CeDell Davis, Roosevelt Sykes, Detroit Junior, and Junior Walker. He also notes the passing of Detroit bluesman, Luther "Badman" Keith.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast Robert Barclay will note the passing of soul singer Sam Moore of “Sam & Dave,” Garth Hudson of “The Band,” Josh White Jr. and author Stanley Booth. He will also debut new CDs by Tommy Castro, Bob Corritore, Frank Bey and Eddie 9 Volt. Plus, some more zydeco from Terrance Simien!
  • The early 60’s were an important time for Bluegrass in folk music, and on this week’s Homespun we’ll hear some of that music performed by The Lilly Brothers, Keith & Rooney, and Don Stover! We’ll also get an early start on St. Patrick’s Day with The Green Fields of America, and John Doyle!
  • This week, Destination Out centers around pianist Andrew Hill's new release, recorded in 2002 titled "It's a beautiful day, Revisited." The release includes music not contained in the original 2002 release. We also spun a few tracks with Andrew as an accompanying musician by Jimmy Woods and Roland Kirk.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast we’re heading to Louisiana for some Cajun, zydeco and blues tunes. We’ll hear from Terrance Simien, Beausoleil, Katie Webster, C.J. Chenier, Buckwheat Zydeco, Lazy Lester, Chubby Carrier, Rosie Ledet, John Mooney, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, and Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys. The Duke of Juke, Robert Barclay, will include some interview sound bites from three of the artists.
  • As we finish out this first full month of 2025, Homespun takes us on a journey with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Reno & Smiley, and Claire Lynch! We also celebrate the life of Garth Hudson, the last remaining member of “The Band,” and say “Happy Birthday” to legendary folk singer Joan Baez.
  • This week on Destination Out, Mike Johnston features the music of Steve Lacy (soprano) and Mal Waldron (piano), focusing on a newly unearthed recording of them in Belgium in 1995. You'll also hear a few pieces of gospel music from Albert Ayler, Mavis Staples and others.
  • This week on “The Juke Joint” broadcast Robert Barclay celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday with an evening of gospel music and songs of the civil rights movement. He includes music from the Staple Singers, Odetta, Pete Seeger, Peter Yarrow, Bob Dylan, the Clara Ward Singers and the Harmonizing Four.
  • The temperatures are going down, so get close to the radio for some warmth and great music this week on Homespun! We’ll celebrate the life of Buck White, the mandolin and piano playing patriarch for the country/bluegrass family group The Whites. We’ll play tracks from his time with The Whites and also selections from his son-in-law Ricky Skaggs.
  • This week on Destination Out, Mike features American saxophonist and composer Arthur Blythe. We'll also hear works from Dexter Gordon, Chucho Valdes, and Bobby Bradford, among others.
  • This week on“The Juke Joint” broadcast Robert Barclay spins some of his favorite CDs from 2024 by Shemekia Copeland, Jovin Webb, Cedric Burnside, Sue Foley, James Harman and Sonny Gullage. He also notes the deaths of John Mayall, W.C. Clark, Clarence "Frogman" Henry and Carl Weathersby.
