He is best known for his 1970 work "The Sorrow and the Pity," about the conduct of the French people during the Holocaust. He also made the film "Hotel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie." His 1992 film "November Days," is about life behind the iron curtain and the changes underway in Europe since the fall of the Berlin wall. (Electra Nonesuch) It was comissioned by the Kronos Quartet and inspired by Reich's childhood memories of traveling across the country by train during the late 30s and early 40s. Reich says those memories have mingled with his later realization that at the same time Jews in Europe were traveling on trains to their deaths.
