Governor Gretchen Whitmer has asked the federal government for a disaster declaration in order to free up extra money and assistance for Michigan.

In an interview on Fox News last night, President Trump said he wasn’t sure if he would grant the request due to Whitmer criticizing his response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking this morning (FRI) on Governor Whitmer said the President’s decision to let individual states find supplies on their own is already hurting Michigan/

“My team and I have been working 24/7 to procure these things for sources other than the federal government. We’ve had some success, you know we’ve gotten some contracts, but just last night I was informed by the team that some of these contracts are being canceled because goods have been redirected to the federal government.”

Whitmer says the state has been able to get masks and other personal protection equipment for health care workers, but so far it isn’t enough. Without some help, she says she anticipates further shortages.
