The first shipments of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine left the Capitol Region International Airport Sunday for its first distribution site.

The first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine left the Pfizer manufacturing facility in Kalamazoo and were brought to the Capitol Region Airport to be shipped by UPS.

Spencer Flynn is the spokesman for the airport. He says the first shipment is going to Louisville, Kentucky.

“This is a real opportunity to highlight how important having airports is to the entire country and how we can be part of that network that shares things like this, that are manufactured in our awesome state of Michigan, but need to get to folks that need it all over the country.”

This is the first batch of 100 million doses that are expected to be distributed from Pfizer’s Kalamazoo location by next March. Many of these shipments will be traveling through Lansing’s airport.
