Michigan high school football moved to spring

MHSAA

Fall Friday night lights will not be a part of 2020.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Friday that high school football will be postponed until the spring.

Director of the MHSAA Mark Uyl said there are too many unknowns and uncertainties.

“At the end of the day, we did everything we could to find a path forward for football this fall,” Uyl said. “No one is willing to take the risk of COVID being passed on because of a high-risk sport.”

Although football has been moved to the spring, other fall sports remain good to go.

Practices for fall sports began Aug. 12 and competition guidelines are expected to be announced next week.

Details for the spring football season including a specific schedule and format will be announced over the next few months. The MHSAA will be working to limit overlap of spring football and the traditional spring sport seasons.
