A recent report by the Detroit Metro Times detailed many violent threats against Governor Gretchen Whitmer over her stay-at-home order. This… coupled with a recent armed protest in the Capitol...has renewed the call for banning guns inside the building.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey denounced the violence, but said he understands the frustration by some people in the state…

“We are listening to the many, many voices who are questioning our governor and the one-size-fits-all heavy-handed blunt form instrument of government that has been used to stifle our ability to make progress from living in fear toward living to live with this insidious virus.”

With another armed protest expected on Thursday… Shirkey says the Michigan State Police should arrest anyone at the Capitol who is being threatening… but calls an outright ban on guns in the building  “cowardly.”
