Federal officials continue investigating corruption at the highest levels of the United Auto Workers union. The probe has led to the resignation of another top union official.
U-A-W Region Five Director Vance Pearson was on paid leave, and facing federal charges of embezzling union funds.
Now the U-A-W says in a statement that Pearson is resigning and retiring.
The union’s Board was already taking steps that could have removed Pearson and U-A-W President Gary Jones.
Both men, as well as former U-A-W President Dennis Williams, have been implicated in a scheme to embezzle more than a million dollars from the union.
Jones resigned days ago.
Neither he nor Williams has been charged with a crime.
