Rep. Huizenga faces ethics inquiry into Disney trips

West Michigan Congressman Bill Huizenga faces an ethics investigation. A bipartisan committee has voted to go ahead with an inquiry into Disney World trips paid for with campaign funds.

The committee review follows an Office of Congressional Ethics report that says trips to Disney World, Utah, and Mackinac Island don’t appear to be direct campaign expenses.

A Huizenga spokesperson told The Detroit News the trips were campaign fundraisers that were meant to build goodwill with donors. But the report says the costs appeared high, and they included staff and family members. In one case, campaign funds paid for a stroller for one of the congressman’s children. The Huizenga spokesperson also called the inquiry a partisan attack, even though the ethics committee is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.
