Southfield clerk charged with election fraud

City of Southfield

The city clerk in Southfield faces felony charges of election tampering. City Clerk Sherikia Hawkins is also barred from supervising voting and ballot-counting in the upcoming November local elections.

Here’s  Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

“Under my authority in Michigan law to exert supervisory control over local elected officials, I directed Clerk Hawkins to refrain from administering any election while there are charges of this sort pending against her.”

Benson says she needed to act quickly because absentee ballots are about to be mailed out.

The six counts filed against Hawkins include misconduct in office, forging a public record, and falsifying election returns Benson says the discrepancies in vote tallies were discovered in an audit that followed the November 2018 election. She says the discrepancies did not affect the results.
