New "Need To Vote" campaign announced in Lansing

A Democratic billionaire stopped by Lansing to announce the launch of his $10 million national campaign to get people to vote in the November midterms.

Tom Steyer launched the Need to Vote campaign. He says in Michigan the campaign will focus on three key swing districts and the governor’s race. Those swing districts include the 8th Congressional race. That seat has been held by Republican Mike Bishop since 2015.

“We want to make sure that the people of Michigan show up, and we’re trying to make sure, as much as possible, that there is the grassroots organization to make them understand how important their vote is.”

Steyer says the campaign has a list of 5 1/2 million people to contact and encourage to vote. He says if they all vote, it could influence the outcome of the November election.
