Conyers Retires

Representative John Conyers announced that he is leaving Congress. Conyers made the statement during an interview on the Mildred Gaddis show.

Shortly after the announcement…a group of supporters held a news conference outside of Conyers’ home in northwest Detroit.

Conyers is facing allegations of sexual harassment from several former staffers.  When asked if those allegations would hurt his legacy…he said “absolutely not.”

Spokesperson Sam Riddle says 2018 will be an election year like few others in Detroit.

Conyers was first elected to the House in 1964.  He has endorsed his son…John Conyers the third…as his replacement in Congress.
