The United States Army Corps of Engineers is planning another public meeting to discuss ways to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes and some Michigan residents are not pleased.

Democratic Michigan U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters are questioning the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decision to delay finalizing a plan which would keep Asian carp out of the lakes.

The senators wrote a letter to the Army Corps and said quote “The process is taking far too long”.

They said they’ve heard current estimates that say it will take up to eight years to install an Asian carp barrier at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam. The Senators said since an adult Asian carp has been caught past an electric barrier, only about nine-miles from Lake Michigan, that time frame is unacceptable.
