The ranking Democrat on the US House Oversight Committee wants to subpoena Governor Rick Snyder.
Congressman Elijah Cummings sits on the House Oversight Committee. Snyder testified before the committee last year on the Flint water crisis, including when he first knew of the outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in Genesee County.
But testimony by a top aide in a criminal trial appears to contradict some key points in Snyder’s testimony before the committee. Cummings is asking the Republican committee chair to authorize a subpoena to get more documents.
Cummings says the governor’s office is withholding documents that could help explain what he knew and when.
A spokesperson for the governor said there would be no response to a “political” request from Cummings. The governor has said he stands by his testimony before the committee.
