Summer slides along and the next edition of Homespun brings us the sounds of dobro master Rob Ickes, The Cox Family, fiddler James Bryan, The Backwoods Band plus West Virginia singer Ginny Hawker! We’ll also hear new releases from Richard Thompson, and Ruth Moody, plus Canadian songwriter Jann Arden!

We roll this week on Homespun with new music from Ruth Moody, and Tony Trischka, and a fine compilation celebrating Rev. Gary Davis! We’ll also get back with the blues of Robert Johnson and Taj Mahal, plus we’ll revisit some classic Patty Griffin and Willian Bell!

As I mop the perspiration from my brow, we’ll celebrate summer and (hopefully) cool off on this week’s Homespun with the music of John Hartford, Dewey Balfa, The Dreadful Snakes, and Tony Trischka, along with the new sounds of Richard Thompson, and Kim Richey!

This week on Homespun, we are taking (virtually) a “Summer Road Trip” to raise money for WCMU Public Radio. We are playing all the good “fundraising” music with artists like JD Crowe, Big Hoedown, James Bryan, Ann Savoy, and many others!

Homespun this week marks the 83rd birthday of Robert Allen Zimmerman: better known as Bob Dylan! We’ll hear from the bard himself plus Dylan “covers” by Tim O’Brien, Ian & Sylvia, Joan Baez, Ray Bonneville, and many others!

Homespun this week continues to celebrate the life of Banjo master and collector Jim Mills with a couple of burnin’ instrumentals, a song he wrote performed by Blue Highway, and his work with mandolinist Alan Bibey! We’ll also hear new music from Louisiana’s Ann Savoy, and we’ll note the 20-year Anniversary release of Lori McKenna’s album “Bittertown”!

This week on Homespun we note the passing of 2 giants in Bluegrass-Mandolinist Frank Wakefield and Banjo master Jim Mills. We’ll hear their solo work as well as Frank’s work with Red Allen and Jim’s with Ricky Skaggs. We’ll also visit music from the film Cold Mountain and new music from Cajun singer and musician Miss Ann Savoy.

Homespun this week covers much traditional musical ground with the likes of Blaine Sprouse, The New Lost City Ramblers, Uncle Dave Macon, and Larry Sparks! We’ll also hear the debut recording of Producer/Songwriter/Musician John Leventhal and Amos Lee covers Lucinda Williams!

As you work on planting flowers and cutting grass, the music on Homespun this week will make everything grow! Alison Krauss, Joe Val, The Price Sisters, Muddy Waters plus Buddy & the Juniors are sure to get all things sprouting!
