About a dozen immigrants started a new hunger strike at the North Lake Correctional Facility to protest their treatment Friday.
Thee Baldwin prisoners say they have been in solitary confinement since March.
They allege prison staff deny them access to their mail... refuse to provide meals cooked to their religious preferences... and destroy complaint paperwork.
In a statement... prison operator, GEO Group, says it provides meals that fit different religious preferences… but didn’t comment on prisoners’ other concerns.
North Lake is a federal prison that holds non-U-S citizens convicted of federal crimes.
Seventy-five prison inmates and employees have recovered from COVID-19… while eight positive employees are still in quarantine.
This is the fourth strike at the facility since March.
