Destination Out: November 11, 2018

This week on “Destination Out”, we featured a tribute to artist/painter Robert Thompson, an African American painter that died young at the age of only 29 years old in 1966. During his brief life he painted over 1000 works of art. He was close friends with several jazz musicians and stylized his art in the spirit of the free jazz of the 1960's. We featured recordings that utilized his paintings for cover art and we also spun the tribute track dedicated to him from tenor saxophonist Archie Shepp, written and recorded shortly after his death.

Mike Johnston is the host of 'Destination Out,' which airs each Sunday evening at 11pm. Mike also teaches music history courses at Delta College and Mid Michigan Community College.
