WCMU Public Media is proud to announce the launch of a weekly news podcast, Between the Lakes.

In less than 15 minutes, you’ll hear a quick round-up of the top stories impacting communities across central and northern Michigan, written and produced by journalists who work and live in the region.

Keeping up with the news and policy shifts can feel overwhelming, but Between the Lakes is built to make consuming the news a little easier. It brings you the most essential information in a way that respects your time and keeps you moving.

You can expect updates on policy decisions in the state capital, how Michigan’s environment is changing, the impact of consolidation on farming and rural communities, local and statewide election coverage and more.

Tina Sawyer, WCMU’s local host of Morning Edition, leads each episode with the same smooth delivery and clever personality listeners already know. Every show includes a “brain teaser” segment to put your trivia skills to the test.

WCMU’s weekly newsletter, WCMUnow, will also adopt the name Between the Lakes, giving WCMU two unique digital news experiences under one shared banner.

You can follow the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and NPR.

Rick Brewer is the news director at WCMU Public Radio, where he has led the newsroom since February 2024.
