A person was confirmed dead at the Mackinac Bridge Tuesday by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s department.

Bryan Hookana, Mackinac County's lieutenant deputy sheriff, told WCMU they responded to the scene at around 1 p.m. after a person was found jumping off the bridge. Hookana said they are investigating this as a possible suicide.

"No foul play seems to be in the works," Hookana said.

The investigation remains ongoing. First responders from the Michigan State Police, Mackinac City Police department were also on scene.

Hookana said details about the incident will not be shared with the public in the immediate future "out of respect for the family and friends of the deceased."

If you or someone you know is in crisis, you can call the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or seek these resources available.
