U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Caledonia, speaks with constituents at an Alma gas station on Sept. 12, 2022.

U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Caledonia) announced this afternoon that he'll be hosting a telephone town hall to address concerns about the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal agencies.

"This is an opportunity to hear directly from me and ask questions," Moolenaar said in his email newsletter to constituents. "Participation is free," he said.

The town hall will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

People are being asked to register ahead of time on Moolenaar's website. His offices in Washington D.C., Caledonia and Clare are also offering assistance for people who need help registering.

  • Washington D.C. Office phone: 202-225-3561
  • Caledonia Office: 616-528-7100
  • Clare Office: 989-802-6040

People can join the town hall by calling 855-408-1335 to listen in.

Participants will be able to submit questions in real time. Questions will also be accepted in advance if they're emailed to Moolenaar.Questions@mail.house.gov.

Moolenaar represents Michigan's 2nd Congressional District, which includes the cities of Mount Pleasant, Big Rapids, Cadillac, Ludington among other communities across rural mid-Michigan and the northwest lower peninsula.

Moolenaar's last virtual town hall was held back in March, where he discussed a variety of topics, including the impact of cuts on the federal workforce by the Department of Government Efficiency, Chinese foreign policy and Medicare. March's town hall allowed participants to submit questions, but people were not able to speak or interact with him directly on the video conference call.

"I want to hear from you and make sure your voice is part of the conversation," Moolenaar said.
