WCMU wins Regional Murrow Award

WCMU Public Media is proud to announce that reporter Teresa Homsi has been honored with a 2025 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Writing, awarded by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

Homsi earned the award for her powerful and beautifully crafted feature on the Maple River, which aired as part of WCMU’s continuing commitment to impactful, in-depth storytelling. Her work stood out among entries from Region Seven, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

A conservation organization claims the Maple River is among the first in the country to be returned to its free-flowing state.

The Edward R. Murrow Awards are among the most prestigious in broadcast and digital journalism, recognizing stories that uphold the legacy of Edward R. Murrow—one of the industry’s most respected pioneers known for his honesty, integrity, and commitment to excellence.

“We are incredibly proud of Teresa and her exceptional storytelling,” said Rick Brewer, news director at WCMU. “This recognition reflects the caliber of journalism our team strives to bring to our listeners every day.”

As a regional winner, Homsi’s work now advances to the national level of the Murrow Awards competition. National winners will be announced in August.
