An economic development group in northern Michigan says it's begun executing their new strategic plan to help develop the economy and workforce across the region.
The Northern Lakes Economic Alliance is a non-profit organization that helps local businesses expand operations.
The plan, which is expected to take three years, will incorporate more than 250 cities in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Emmet counties.
Payton Heins is President and CEO of the alliance. She said a part of the plan is to grow and diversify the economies to become year-round, as opposed to seasonal. One of those ways is by her team meeting with companies in these counties.
"And that team goes out and meets directly with business across the region to understand their priority needs and opportunities they see on the horizon for the growth of their company," Heinz said.
Heinz added that another one of their priorities is to bring more young people to the region.
"And so, we're looking at expanding both that marketing component as well as increasing our initiatives working directly with companies to help them cultivate stronger talent pipelines," Heinz said.
The plan has several other objectives, including the development of year-round businesses and building more infrastructure.
The NLEA says the plan will conclude in December 2027.
