The Tittabawassee River no longer flows over the Sanford Dam after a flood damaged the dam in 2020. Now, the river flows around the embankment and pools at its bottom.

Last month, a homeowner's association from of Midland and Gladwin counties known as the Heron Cove Association, filed an appeal against the high assessments the Four Lakes Task Force was applying to their properties. The funds from the assessments would go towards repairing the dams that were destroyed in May of 2020 across the Tittabawassee river.

During a motion hearing Thursday at the Midland County Circuit Court, Judge Stephen Carras recused himself from the case after the association called for his removal due to his involvement in the creation of the assessment district.

This comes on the same day in which the Heron Cove Association filed a case against the Midland County Board of Commissioners and the Four Lakes Task Force.

The Midland County Circuit Court informed WCMU that Judge Michael Beale will be assigned to the case moving forward.
