This weekend's Michigan Snowmobile Festival has been canceled.

Even though Mother Nature has dumped a lot of snow on northern Michigan this month, it wasn't enough to give snowmobile trails in Gaylord a solid base for riding.

According to the National Weather Service, Gaylord experienced its second warmest December on record last month.

Christie Walcott is the director of marketing for the Gaylord Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the group who puts on the festival.

She said small businesses are the ones who will be impacted most by the cancellation. Last year saw record attendance with over 250 parties.

"They're the ones that are going to really feel it," Walcott said. "It does affect our hotels, it affects all of our restaurants, it affects everything in the community."

It's the third time in the last four years the festival has been canceled.
