Central Michigan University President, Bob Davies, announced his plans to step down from his role by the end of 2024.
In a letter to the university, he cited personal and professional reasons for his decision to depart.
Davies said he will remain president until the university’s Board of Trustees selects a new candidate to take over his role.
“I look forward to our continued partnership over the next 11 months,” Davies said. “Please be assured that I will remain an active, engaged and enthusiastic proponent of this work in my final year as president.”
Davies was appointed as CMU’s 15th president in 2018 and has served for nearly six years.
In his letter, Davies reflected on some of his accomplishments during his tenure, including his efforts to prioritize university safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, his role in helping to create the university’s new strategic plan and his recent announcement of the university’s new four-year nursing degree program.
“The work we have done together fills me with pride, and we have a great deal of work remaining ahead of us,” he said.
Todd Regis, Chair of the CMU Board of Trustees, said the board will soon begin the process of searching for a new president by forming a search advisory committee and hiring a search firm.
