Chipotle struggling to reach agreement with employees in Lansing

More than a year after voting to unionize, workers at a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Lansing are still without a contract. The restaurant was the first of the fast-food chains in the country to unionize.

In August of 2022, employees at the Chipotle on the west side of Lansing overwhelmingly voted to unionize.

Despite meeting with company officials several times over the last year to discuss higher wages and better benefits, the two sides have failed to reach an agreement.

Atulya Dora-Laskey works at the restaurant. She says the best offer they’ve received from Chipotle is a pay increase of five cents an hour. “So that means the process that made the offer kind of exceptionally aggravating to us.”

The two sides are scheduled to return to the bargaining table next month.

In a statement, Chipotle officials said they are bargaining in good faith and believe in offering competitive wages.
